Creative Background
I have a degree in illustration from the California College of the Arts and have found that, even though the mediums are different, the fundamentals of creating engaging, impactful imagery are exactly the same. Fundamentals such as storytelling, framing, composition and lighting.
Prior to starting Mitchel Wu Toy Photography I was a fulltime corporate photographer and lifestyle photographer. I came to toy photography with over 8 years of professional photography experience.
Professional Background
I have been in creative-focused careers my entire adult life. Prior to embarking on a career in photography I enjoyed a decades long career designing and developing character sculptures and character collectibles for The Walt Disney Company and other major entertainment companies. This involved my hiring and managing freelance designers, artists and sculptors. Being on the other side of the table gave me invaluable insight into what makes an independent artist attractive to companies, and how the things that an independent artist does or doesn’t do can lead to success or failure. This experience has allowed me to acquire and hone skills that directly relate to my running and building a successful toy photography business.
I also spent years approaching and pitching companies on new business ideas and product lines. This led to successful collaborations with Warner Bros, Sony Pictures, Lucasfilm and Cirque Du Soleil. Applying this experience to my toy photography business has played a crucial role in my recent collaborations with The Walt Disney Company, Warner Bros, Kinder Chocolates, Moose Toys, Mattel, Virgin Media UK and others. It was also what helped me land sponsorships with some of the best-known companies in the world. It’s been an amazing journey filled with creativity.

One On One Video Chat Session - Two 1 Hour Intensives (2 hours total) - $675.00
I will come to all mentoring sessions having already reviewed and assessed your work in relation to your goals. The first 1 hour session will include my observations of your work, instruction, information and advice. The second 1 hour session will review your implementation of that instruction, information and advice. Customized sessions including but not limited to:
